ロッキーズ日本語アカデミーは、従来の日本の学校教育のスタイルにとらわれない、コミュニケーションを重視した語学のトレーニングを提供するために、継承語学習クラス（JHL）と日本語を外国語として学習するクラス（JLL）の二つの学びの環境を用意しています。
JAR offers Japanese as Heritage Language（JHL) and Japanese Language Learners (JLL) classes to catere to students' needs and goals in learning Japanese.
継承語学習クラス Japanese as Heritage Language (JHL)
家庭で日本語を話す子供向け。日本語で物事を考え、日本語で抽象概念が表現出来るように発展させていく事を目標としています。クラスでのインストラクションは日本語で行います。
JHL classes are for children who speak Japanese at home. The goal is to develop their ability to think in Japanese and express abstract concepts in Japanese. Instructions in the class are conducted in Japanese.
たんぽぽ • Tanpopo
生徒の基本年齢と学年：２歳
授業時間：１時間１５分
日本語を話す保護者と同伴。読み聞かせ、歌（手遊び歌）、遊び（ゲーム）、工作、文化・伝統活動などを通して、日本語を楽しく学ぶ。授業内に、保護者と教師の子育て勉強会もある。

Class Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Accompanied by a Japanese-speaking parent. Learning Japanese through fun activities such as storytelling, songs (hand-play songs), play (games), crafts, and cultural/traditional activities. The class also includes parenting study sessions between parents and teachers.
うめ • Ume

サークルタイム（朝の会）、読み聞かせ、歌（手遊び歌）、遊び（ゲーム）、工作、文化・伝統活動などを通して、生徒間、生徒―教師間の触れ合いを高め、日本語使うことを楽しむ。

Through circle time, storytelling, songs (hand-play songs), playing games, crafts, and cultural/traditional activities, we enhance interactions among students and between students and teachers, fostering enjoyment in using Japanese.
もも • Momo

授業時間：１時間４５分
授業中の様々な活動（サークルタイム、歌、読み聞かせ、工作、文化・伝統活動など）を楽しく体験しながら、日本語の語彙力、発話力を高めていく。ひらがなの、認識と読みの学習を始める。

Class Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes
While enjoying various activities during class (such as circle time, songs, storytelling, crafts, cultural/traditional activities), students enhance their Japanese vocabulary and speaking skills. They also start learning hiragana recognition and reading.
さくら • Sakura

授業時間：２時間１５分
授業中の様々な活動を通し、日常生活で必要な語彙を増やし、発話・生徒間の質の高い会話を促進する。ひらがなの読みの定着を図り、文字を通して、日本語に対する、興味や理解を高める。

Through various activities in class, we aim to expand vocabulary needed in daily life and promote high-quality speech and conversations among students. The focus is on reinforcing the reading of hiragana and enhancing interest and understanding of Japanese through characters.

授業中の様々な活動を通し、日常生活で必要な発話・会話力を高める。バイ／マルチリンガル生徒向けのテキストを使い、さらなる語彙・表現力の向上を目指す。ひらがなの読み書きの定着を図る。

Class Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes
Through various activities in class, we aim to enhance speaking and conversational skills necessary for everyday life. Using texts designed for bilingual/multilingual students, we strive to further improve vocabulary and expressive skills. The focus is also on reinforcing reading and writing hiragana.

カタカナや一年生の漢字学習、教科書の音読などを始めることにより、読み書きを通しての日本語学習の理解を高める。プロジェクト発表、バイ／マルチリンガル生徒向けのテキストを使うことにより、発言力、表現力など、コミュニケーションの能力を高める。

By starting with katakana and first-grade kanji learning, and reading from textbooks, we enhance understanding of Japanese learning through reading and writing. Through project presentations and using texts for bilingual/multilingual students, we aim to improve abilities such as speaking, expressiveness, and overall communication skills.

カタカナ、一年生の漢字の読み書きの定着を図り、次の段階の教科書の音読や読解作業を通して、読み書きの力を伸ばす。文法に特化したテキスト、読解プリントなどを使用し、日本語学習の領域を広げる。プロジェクト発表、文化・伝統、または工作・実験などを通して、コミュニケーションの能力を伸ばす。

We aim to reinforce reading and writing of katakana and first-grade kanji, and extend reading and writing skills through textbook reading and comprehension activities. Using grammar-focused texts and comprehension worksheets, we broaden the scope of Japanese language learning. Abilities in communication are further developed through project presentations, cultural/traditional activities, or through crafts and experiments.

By engaging with second-grade textbooks used in Japan, workbooks, and grammar-focused texts, students will enhance their reading comprehension skills. Learning to read and write katakana and kanji, as well as practicing essay writing and speeches, will further develop their writing and presentation abilities. Through crafts and project presentations, students will also improve their communication skills.

By working on third and fourth-grade textbooks used in Japan, workbooks, and grammar-focused texts, students will improve their reading comprehension skills. Learning to read and write katakana and kanji, along with practicing essay writing and speeches, will further develop their writing and presentation skills. Through research studies and project presentations, they will also enhance their communication abilities.

毎年5月に実施される、APテストに向けて、その基礎となる日本語の語彙・漢字・熟語・構文、文法を学び、作文や発表の練習をする。

家庭での日本語使用が限られる聴解型学習者の子供や、外国語として日本語を学ぶ子供達向け。より多くの日本語の語彙や文法に触れ、日本語でのコミュニケーション能力の基礎を養うことを目標としています。クラスでのインストラクションの一部は英語で行います。
JLL classes are for children with limited Japanese use at home or those learning Japanese as a foreign language. The goal is to expose them to a broader range of Japanese vocabulary and grammar and to develop a foundation in Japanese communication skills. A portion of the instruction in the class will be conducted in English.
はやて • Hayate
生徒の基本年齢と学年：5歳以上（8月31日時点）〜小学低学年
授業時間：１時間４５分
日本語（平仮名など）の知識は必要ありません。
歌、工作、読み聞かせ、ゲーム、ひらがなの導入などを通して、日本語、日本文化・伝統を学び、日本や日本語への興味を引き出す。授業は８０％英語、２０％が日本語で行われる。

Class Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes
No prior knowledge of Japanese is required.
Learning Japanese language, culture, and traditions through songs, crafts, storytelling, games, and introduction to hiragana, aiming to spark interest in Japan and the Japanese language. The class is conducted 80% in English and 20% in Japanese.
こだま • Kodama

ひらがなの基礎を既に習得している生徒を対象に、ゲームなどを利用して、ひらがなとカタカナの更なる練習と定着を図る。「三修社 まるごとシリーズ」の入門（Ａ1）を利用して、構文や文法の基礎を学び、聞く・話す・読む・書くを体系的に学ぶ。工作などのハンズオンの体験活動を通して、日本文化にも触れていく。授業は必要に応じて英語での説明を加える。

Need basic reading and writing of hiragana and continue to solidify hiragana and katakana through games and other engaging methods. Using Marugoto Series' Introduction (A1) to learn the basics of syntax and grammar, and systematically study listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Hands-on activities like crafts are included to expose students to Japanese culture. The class includes explanations in English as needed.
みずほ • Mizuho

クラス分け（日本語）revised20200721.pdfChild Classes (English) revised20200721.pdfもも組、さくら組、ひかり組終了時にはそれぞれチェックリストに基づいた評価を担任が行い、担任と保護者との面談を経て翌年度のクラスを決めます。各生徒にとって最も適切なクラスを選ぶために、継承語クラスの進級希望者には翌年度の開始直前にプレイスメントテストを実施することがあります。一度クラス分けが決定した後でも、生徒の能力の変化とプレイスメントテスト次第では他のクラスへの編入も可能です。
At the end of the Momo, Sakura, and Hikari classes, the teacher conducts evaluations based on checklists, and the class for the next academic year is determined through interviews between the teacher and parents. In order to choose the most appropriate class for each student, we may conduct a placement test just before the start of the next academic year for students who wish to advance in heritage language classes. Even after class assignments are decided, it is possible to transfer to another class depending on changes in the student's abilities and the results of the placement test.
